Prayer-Chant

Many prayers from the usual prayer books the Amidah and the Psalms are usually sung rather than read. Modes, scales (Ashkenazi) and maqams(Sephardi and Mizrahi) are used. Often, scales and maqams are fixed for given prayers at given times and Holidays. Some melodies are also set while other prayers are more often improvised.
